MECHANICSBURG, PA – Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) set a pair of meet records while three other Crimson Hawk swimmers broke school marks as IUP competed on the final day of the 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships on Sunday at Cumberland Valley High School.

Hynson's two wins came in the 200 back and 200 fly, completely dominating her competition with comfortable margins of victory, finishing with times of 1:59.60 and 2:01.84, respectively. Her win in the 200 back broke her own meet record from a year ago by 1.49 seconds and was just .15 seconds off of her own PSAC record. It was also an NCAA “A” cut time as she finished 4.29 seconds ahead of the second place swimmer.

Posting another NCAA “A” cut time in the 200 fly, Hynson broke a nine-year old meet record by .87 seconds, besting the second place swimmer in the event by two full seconds.

Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) added another individual win for the Crimson Hawks, cruising to victory in the 200 breast with a new school record time of 2:18.35. The NCAA “B” cut time broke her own mark by 1.21 seconds and was 4.11 seconds better than the second place finisher.

Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield) continued the record breaking performances in the 200 fly, winning the event with a time of 1:51.82, 2.21 seconds better than his previous school record from earlier this year.

David Donovan (Edinboro/General McLane) then blew away the IUP record in the 1650 free, as his time of 16:08.11 bettered the seven year old mark of 16:18.78. His second place finish in the event was also an NCAA “B” cut time.

The successful day for IUP wrapped up a championship meet full of new school, conference and meet records for the Crimson Hawks. In all, 11 school, three conference and two meet records were broken by IUP swimmers during the four day meet.

“The standings don't do justice to how truly outstanding IUP's men and women swam this weekend,” said IUP head coach Chris Villa. “We are rewriting the record board and adding to the list of PSAC champions. Overall, I am pleased.”

Along with her records in the 200 back and 200 fly, Hynson also broke a school record in the 100 fly this weekend. Mitidieri owns new IUP records in the 200 IM and 200 breast, while the women's 200 medley, 400 medley and 800 free relay teams all broke new school records.

On the men's side, Long also broke the school, conference and meet records in the 100 fly in addition to his 200 fly school record on Sunday. Donovan also owns the new school record in the 500 free while Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion) broke the IUP record in the 1000 free.

As a team, the women finished in fifth place of 13 teams with 315.5 points. West Chester is the meet champion with 684 points while Clarion (441), Cal (412) and Gannon (336.5) were second through fourth.

The IUP men finished in sixth place of seven teams with 362 points as West Chester also took home the men's title with 749.5 points. Gannon (472) finished in second while Edinboro (445), Clarion (439.5) and Bloomsburg (377) round out the top five.
