Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) earned All-American honors in the 200 breast while
Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) added honorable mention status in the 200 back as IUP wrapped up the season on the final day of the 2012 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium in Texas.
Mitidieri's time of 2:18.23 broke her own school record that she set in the conference championships last month as she finished six overall. Her prelims time of 2:19.33 earlier in the day gave her the seventh seed heading into the evening.
Hynson's prelim time of 2:02.79 in the 200 back put her just :00.58 out of eighth place as she advanced to the consolation finals at night. She shaved nearly two seconds off of her time by finishing with a time of 2:00.98, which was actually the sixth fastest time of all swimmers in either the championship or consolation finals.
Hynson, a senior, wrapped up a very successful NCAA championships, earning All-American status in three events (200 IM, 100 fly, 200 fly), as well as honorable mention (200 back), winning a national title and breaking a Division II record in the 200 fly. Hynson also broke three school records during the week.
In her three years at IUP, Hynson earned All-American status 11 total times, placing in the top eight of events eight times and earning honorable mention honors three more times. She owns six school records and is a part of two relay records at IUP.
Mitidieri wrapped up a successful sophomore season by earning All-American honors in three events (200 IM, 400 IM, 200 breast) at her first career NCAA championships.
Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield) also competed during the week, placing 19th in the 100 fly and 18th in the 200 fly.
