Crimson Hawks Record Second Straight Shutout in 3-0 Win Over Clarion

Box Score

CLARION, PA – Three different goal scorers led the IUP women's soccer team to a 3-0 road victory over the Golden Eagles of Clarion.

Kaitlyn Kaminski (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) got things going for IUP, scoring in the 14th minute off a pass redirected by Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) in front of the net. The goal was Kaminski's first of the season.

Defense took over for both teams, as Kaminski's goal would be the last score for more than 60 minutes. IUP peppered Clarion goalkeeper Laura Saussol with shots, forcing her to make five saves off 10 shots in the first half of play.

Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) had three good scoring chances in the first half, but was denied by Saussol each time.

In the second half, IUP again dominated in every category.

In the 77th minute, Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) made it 2-0, scoring off a direct pass from Fabian, five yards out. That was the seventh goal of the season for Kuhns, tied for fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Just five minutes later, the Crimson Hawks would seal the deal, when Fisher scored her fifth goal of the season on a breakaway.
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) was again solid in net, stopping each of Clarion's scoring chances. Freshman Alex Arnoldy (Ortonville, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) also saw some time in the net, playing for just over two minutes to close out the game.

The IUP defense was stellar, preventing Clarion from getting a shot off for 49 straight minutes.

The Crimson Hawks dominated Clarion, outshooting them 22-4. IUP also took eight corner kicks, compared to just two from the Golden Eagles.

Improving to 7-6-1, 5-6-1 on the season, the Crimson Hawks are riding a two game win streak and will return home Tuesday to host Gannon for their annual Think Pink game. The team will be taking donations as a fundraiser to bring awareness to the early detection of breast cancer. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m. at South Campus Field.
