INDIANA, PA – On a rainy Homecoming night at IUP, the Crimson Hawks fell to top-ranked Shippensburg 4-2 at George P. Miller Stadium.
The game was delayed with 7:39 left in the second half due to lightening in the area. Shippensburg held a 4-1 lead at the time.
Kendra Blantz (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley) scored IUP's final goal in the 69th minute after the delay, narrowing the Crimson Hawks deficit to two goals.
The Raiders, 10-0 on the year and 3-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, scored the game's first three goals, all in the first 12 minutes of action.
Taylor Bender opened the scoring less than three minutes in, followed by goals from Lauren Taylor and Megan Jett. The Crimson Hawks got their first goal from
Casey McGowan (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) on a penalty stroke in the 25th minute as the half came with Shippensburg on top 3-1.
Shippensburg scored the opening goal of the second half when Taylor knocked one in from eight yards out in the 39th minute, giving the Raiders a 4-1 lead.
Darian Shuker (Reading, Pa./Exeter ) had four saves in the cage for IUP.
The Crimson Hawks (3-7, 1-2) are back in action on Wednesday in Greensburg against Seton Hill.
