Women’s Swimming Scores Win in Winter Sprint Invitational

INDIANA, PA – The IUP women's swimming team won 10 events on Thursday as the Crimson Hawks easily defeated visiting Wheeling Jesuit 153-87 in the Winter Spring Invitational at the Pidgeon Natatorium.

Taylor Snyder (Titusville, Pa. /Titusville), Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) and Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ) each won a pair of events, and in addition to a relay win combined for seven of IUP's victories on the day.

The relay was the 200 yard medley, which included Emily Shumaker (Carlisle/Big Spring), Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) and Snyder and finished with a time of 1:50.24.

Christina's wins came in the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle, notching times of 1:59.55 and 5:25.77, respectively. She also finished second in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:03.17.

Her younger sister, Aniella, picked up first place finishes in the 50 yard butterfly and 100 yard butterfly, coming in with times of 26.41 and 57.89, respectively.

Snyder got wins in the 50 (23.94) and 100 free (53.18), in addition to a second place finish in the 50 yard butterfly (27.14).

Also picking up individual victories were Shumaker in the 50 yard backstroke (28.74); Emily Clark (Cresco/Pocono Mountain East) in the 50 yard breaststroke (31.46); and Allyson Miditieri in the 100 breast (1:07.71).

Gabby Guttman (Allentown/Salisbury) had three second place finishes on the day, including the 100, 200 and 500 yard freestyle. Emily Clark (Cresco/Pocono Mountain East) in the 100 breast, Paige Spradling (Lancaster, Pa. /Hempfield) in the 50 breast, and Mitidieri in the 100 fly also added second place finishes.

This was IUP's final action of 2013 as the Crimson Hawks return to the pool on Jan. 12 when they compete in the South Florida Relays.
