SHIPPENSBURG, PA – Down 3-0 in the second half, the IUP field hockey team scored three straight goals to mount a near comeback victory over No. 1 Shippensburg. Despite their best efforts, the Crimson Hawks fell 4-3.
IUP came out fighting in the second half, down by three goals.
Dani Edwards (Milford/Delaware Valley) struck first for IUP and gave them their first point in the 57th minute.
Chelsea Wanamaker (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) added the next goal after an assist from Edwards in the 62nd minute. Quickly after, in the 65th minute, Jessica Kida added IUP's third and final goal following an assist from
Haley Fidler (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood).
Shippensburg secured the win in the 67th minute with the last goal of the game.
IUP goalie,
Darian Shuker (Reading, Pa./Exeter ), played strong, and was able to save six of Shippenburg's 10 shots on goal.
Shippensburg started off strong scoring in the first minute of the game. The Raiders added their second goal in the 30th minute and their third goal, off an easy short shot into the open goal, in the 48th minute.
The Crimson Hawks fall to 1-5 on the season, and they will travel to West Chester to take on the second-ranked Golden Rams Friday.
