SOUTH BEACH GARDENS, FL – The IUP men's swim team was edged out by West Chester, falling 119-51 Sunday afternoon in the South Florida Relays.
West Chester is ranked fourth in the Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Midseason Power Rankings, while the Crimson Hawks sit at No. 22.
The men claimed first place finishes in the 300 yard butterfly relay, 300 yard breaststroke relay and 500 yard freestyle relay.
Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield),
Bobby Sciscento (Lancaster/Manheim Township) and
Ben Adams (Katy, TX/Cypress Springs) made up the first place 300 yard butterfly relay team, finishing ahead of the second place West Chester team by exactly four seconds with a time of 2:36.40.
In the 300 yard breaststroke relay,
Zach Fountain (Springfield, VA/West Springfield),
Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion) and
Alex Cummings (Altoona/Altoona) edged out West Chester by less than one second to claim the first place finish.
In the men's final win of the afternoon,
Andrew Richey (Warminster/William Tennent), Long,
Paul Singerman (Apollo/Kiski) and
Chris Strauss (Allentown/Parkland) finished with a time of 4:25.03.
The men will again take the pool Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 as they host the Crimson Hawk Dual Challenge. That will be their final tune up before the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships, Feb. 20-23 in York, Pa.
