Women's Swimming Claims Two Dual Victories at South Florida Relays

SOUTH BEACH GARDENS, FL – The IUP women's swim team claimed two dual wins over Millersville and West Chester Sunday afternoon in the South Florida Relays.

The women first defeated Millersville 136-54 and moved on to defeat West Chester, who was ranked third in the Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Top 25, 91-79.

In 10 events, the women claimed seven first place finishes and three second place finishes.

They claimed victories in the 300 yard butterfly relay, 300 yard backstroke relay, 300 yard breaststroke relay, 500 yard freestyle relay, 400 yard medley relay, 200 yard freestyle relay and 400 yard medley 4x100 relay.

The 300 yard butterfly relay team, made up of Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area), Paige Spradling (Lancaster, Pa. /Hempfield) and Allison Humphries finished with a time of 3:01.50, more than five seconds ahead of the second place team.

Emily Shumaker (Carlisle/Big Spring), Humphries and Caroline Rudkin (Willow Grove, Pa. /Upper Dublin) won the 300 yard backstroke, edging out West Chester by less than two seconds.

The 300 yard breaststroke relay was won by Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), Emily Clark (Cresco/Pocono Mountain East) and Spradling, who, again, dominated West Chester, finishing nearly eight seconds ahead.

In the 500 yard freestyle relay, Taylor Snyder (Titusville, Pa. /Titusville), Gabriella Guttman, Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) and Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ) took first place with a time of 4:47.33. Shumaker, Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area), Mitidieri and Snyder followed that up, winning the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 4:05.09.

The 200 yard freestyle team, consisting of Snyder, Shumaker, Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) and Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ), edged out the West Chester squad by less than one second to claim the victory.

The last victory of the afternoon for the women came in the 400 yard medley 4x100 relay, as Mitidieri, Clark, Spradling and Stephanie Soracco (Ingram/PA Cyber) defeated second place West Chester by more than 10 seconds, finishing with a time of 4:17.57.

Ranked 14th in the Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Midseason Power Rankings, the women will return to the pool Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 as they host the Crimson Hawk Dual Challenge. That will be the final tune up before the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships, Feb. 20-23 in York, Pa.
