INDIANA, PA –
Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) and
Lauren Hester (State College, Pa. /State College) each had 23 kills and
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) tallied 81 assists as IUP swept its matches on the second day of women's volleyball conference crossover matches on Saturday at the Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Crimson Hawks wrapped up a 3-1 weekend with a four-set win over East Stroudsburg and a perfect 3-0 win over Kutztown.
Three different players had double-digit kills in the 3-1 win over the Warriors, with Sova posting a team-high 13. She also tied a season-high with seven total blocks as the Crimson Hawks won sets two, three and four by scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-17 after an opening set 25-20 loss.
Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) had a season-high 11 kills on 21 attacks for an impressive .476 hitting percentage against the Warriors.
Lauren Hester (State College, Pa. /State College) finished with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Moeller's 45 assists against East Stroudsburg was also a season-high.
Joie Hrapla (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Bishop Canevin) had a team-high 17 digs while
Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) had 15 and
Jenna Veverka (York, Pa. /Central York) added 12.
There was a big crowd on hand for IUP's nightcap against Kutztown, with the Crimson Hawks getting wins of 25-23, 25-18 and 26-24 in front of plenty of alumni on Homecoming.
Hester picked up her ninth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 13 digs. Sova added 10 kills and three block assists and
Lisa Kissell (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Salem) added six kills and a pair of block assists.
Moeller had 36 assists in the second match to go along with five kills on eight attempts.
Between the second and third sets, IUP honored several former student-athletes and coaches for their dedication and effort which has given the women's volleyball program much success.
The Crimson Hawks leave the weekend with a 9-11 overall record and a 5-8 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). They're back in action next Friday night when they host rival Slippery Rock at the Kovalchick Complex at 7 p.m.
