INDIANA, PA –
Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) tallied 15 kills and
Joie Hrapla (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Bishop Canevin) had 19 digs but the Crimson Hawks fell to rival Slippery Rock in straight sets in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's volleyball match on Friday night at the KCAC.
All close sets, IUP fell by scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 25-20.
The Crimson Hawks used a 5-0 run early in the opening set to take a 12-9 lead over SRU, getting a pair of kills by
Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton). SRU came back with three straight points to tie before a 4-0 by the Crimson Hawks gave them a 16-12 advantage.
The two teams traded points, as the set included seven more ties, with McWilliams holding off an SRU win with a kill to make it 24-24 late in the game. SRU then rallied back with a pair of kills to take the two-point opening set victory.
SRU grabbed an early lead at 2-1 in the second set, holding onto that all the way through for the 25-20 win. The third set saw the same happen, as SRU led by as many as seven points before coming away with the identical score to sweep the match.
Sova's 15 kilsl came on 32 attempts, as she added two block assists on the night.
Lauren Hester (State College, Pa. /State College) had eight kills and 10 digs while McWilliams finished with seven kills on 16 attempts.
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) had 23 assists and 10 digs and
Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) added 11 digs.
The Crimson Hawks, now 9-12 overall and 5-9 in the PSAC, hit the road on Saturday to face off against Edinboro in another conference clash. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
