INDIANA, PA – In a game completely dominated on the offensive end by IUP, the Crimson Hawks picked up a 2-0 victory over visiting Mansfield in a conference field hockey matchup on Wednesday night in Miller Stadium.
IUP outshot Mansfield 15-6, including 7-1 in the first half to improve to 6-7 overall and 5-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Mansfield falls to 2-11 overall and 2-9 in the league.
Even with that dramatic shot difference in the opening half, the game was scoreless at the break.
Tia Barndt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) opened up the scoring in the 51st minute, gathering a rebound of a shot of
Jess Kida (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) right in front of the cage for her fourth goal of the season. The final goal came 11 minutes later, with
Paige Klouser (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) scoring the first of her career when she tipped and redirected a
Chelsea Wanamaker (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) shot attempt from 12 yards out.
Darian Shuker (Reading, Pa./Exeter ) had all three of her saves in the second half to keep Mansfield off the board and record her fourth shutout of the season.
The Crimson Hawks, still with four games to go in the regular season, play in their final home game of the year on Saturday night against Slippery Rock.
