No. 24 Women's Soccer Earns Its Fourth Shutout of the Season 4-0 Over Mansfield

INDIANA, PA - A goal and two assists by Lexie Palluconi (Penfield, N.Y./Fairport), and only three Mansfield shots allowed by the IUP defense lead the Crimson Hawks to a 4-0 victory over the Mountaineers Friday at South Campus Field.

The first IUP goal came by Palluconi, off an assist by Alyanna James (Newmarket, Ont./Newmarket) and Victoria Crawford (Port Matilda, Pa. /State College), in the 14th minute of play.  James had a fast break down the middle of the field, shot the ball to Crawford, who then passed it to Palluconi for her third score of the season.

Just 15 minutes later, Palluconi recorded her first assist of the game by centering the ball in front of the net for Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) who clinched her sixth goal of the season.  This play gave the Crimson Hawks a 2-0 lead as the teams went into the half.

IUP started the second half of competition with a scoring play after just two minutes.  After a loose ball in front of the Mansfield net, Riley Bartoo (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls), off an assist by Palluconi, dribbled the ball past the Mountaineer goalkeeper and into the goal.

Two minutes later Mackenna Miller (Milton, Pa. /Milton) strengthened the IUP lead, and scored the last goal of the game, on a header that shot off the post and into the net.  This final scoring play included an assist by Kristen Baumgartner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford).

The IUP defense executed their best performance of the season by only allowing Mansfield three shots throughout the entire game.  Two of their attempted shots came in the first half, and only one was allowed in the second.  This marked the fifth game of the 2014 season that the Crimson Hawks have outshot their opponent, and their fourth shutout of the season. In addition, both IUP goalkeepers, Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) and Ashley Schoellkopf (Perkasie, Pa. /Pennridge), saw playing time.

The Crimson Hawks have a quick turn around, and are back at the South Campus Field Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for a match against Edinboro.
