INDIANA, PA – The Crimson Hawks got a goal from
Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) in the 64th minute and outshot West Chester 7-4 in the second half but IUP ended up falling to the 12th-ranked Golden Rams 2-1 in conference women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.
Kuhns' goal was her team-leading seventh of the season, and came on a breakaway pass from
Taylor Vladic (Duncansville, Pa. /Hollidaysburg) to cut the Golden Rams' lead to 2-1 with 26:06 left to play in the game.
The goal highlighted a second half that was owned offensively and defensively by the Crimson Hawks as they tried to rally from a 2-0 halftime deficit. IUP had several chances down the stretch after Kuhns' goal, but shots by Vladic and
Lexie Palluconi (Penfield, N.Y./Fairport) flew high and the Crimson Hawks were unable to tie the score before the final horn.
The Golden Rams scored their goals in the 12th and 34th minutes, capitalizing on loose balls in front of the net each time.
The loss drops the Crimson Hawks to 7-3-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) as West Chester improves to 8-1 in the league and with 24 points, takes over first place in the standings. .
The Crimson Hawks have another tough test on Saturday as they travel to face East Stroudsburg, which owns a 7-1 PSAC record. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
