WCUpaGoldenRams.comTHE GAMEThe Crimson Hawks open up their 2014-15 regular season as they travel to West Chester University to face The Sciences and Concordia (NY) in the annual Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament. PSAC East foe West Chester hosts the tournament, which runs Friday night and into Saturday afternoon at the Hollinger Field House.
LAST TIME OUTThe Crimson Hawks played a pair of Division I schools extremely tough as they fell to Penn State and Pittsburgh in preseason exhibition games. Sr. F
Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) scored a career-high 26 points in the 75-71 loss to the Nittany Lions, draining 6-8 3FGs while dishing out 6 assists. Sr. G
Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) was IUP's standout in the 69-61 loss at Pitt, posting a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds with 4 assists in 26 minutes.
WHAT'S NEXTThe Crimson Hawks come back to Indiana next week for their 2014-15 home opener when they host Ohio Valley on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 PM. IUP has a 4-1 all-time series lead over the Fighting Scots, with the last meeting coming during the 2005-06 season with IUP coming out on top 97-55.
EXHIBITION TAKE-AWAYSIUP was extremely hot from 3-point range in its 2 games, going a combined 25-51 (49.0 pct) against Penn State and Pitt. 5 different players made at least 4 3s, including Fairman with 7. Stamp, Sr. G

Marina Wareham (New Wilmington, Pa. /Kennedy Catholic) have all drained 4 3s apiece.
The Crimson Hawks were also very adept at passing and finding the open shooter as they tallied 36 assists on 44 made FGs in both games. Fairman led the team with 11 while Mathe had 8 and Stamp added 6.
PSAC PRESEASON POLLThe PSAC preseason coaches' poll came out on Oct. 30, with IUP getting picked to finish 4th in the Western Division. The Crimson Hawks finished behind defending champion Edinboro (7 first place votes), Gannon (2 first place votes), and California (PA), respectively. The predicted top five schools - UPJ sits behind IUP in 5th - is coincidentally the same order of finish at the end of the 2013-14 season.
PRESEASON ALL-PSAC WESTStamp was one of six players named to the preseason All-PSAC West team on Thursday. Stamp enters the year with 931 career points and led the Crimson Hawks last year with 17.8 PPG and 6.3 RPG with a 41.4 3FG%, garnering 1st team All-PSAC West honors.
WHO'S COMING BACKStamp highlights five starters who return for the Crimson Hawks from last year's PSAC tournament team. Mathe and Fairman join her in the backcourt, as well as Stapleton and Sr. F
Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson). Together, that group has accounted for 377 games and 275 starts in their careers.
Mathe and Fairman are former 2nd team All-PSAC West selections while Stapleton is currently IUP's all-time leader in career 3FG% and Stoner is 2nd all-time in career FT%. Six other players return who have all seen the court, including Wareham, Jr. Fs

THE NEWCOMERSThe Crimson Hawks welcome four new freshmen into the program for the 2014-15 season, including Gs
Monica Burns (New Stanton, Pa. /Hempfield ),
Halle Denman (Beaver Falls, Pa. /Blackhawk),
Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) &
Courteney Storm (Hollidaysburg, Pa. /Hollidaysburg). All four hail from Pennsylvania and earned numerous postseason honors during their scholastic careers, including each being a 1,000-point scorer. They'll add even more depth to a crowded bench.
GOING FOR 1000Stamp enters the year just 69 points shy of 1,000 for her career. She's scored 732 points in her two seasons at IUP with another 199 during her freshman season at Mercyhurst. Last year was a career year for Stamp in her first as a full-time starter, opening with seven consecutive games of 20-plus points, including 35 points against Pitt-Johnstown on Nov. 20.
GOING FOR 1000, PART 2Stamp might be the closest to the 1,000-point milestone, but she's not the only player on the roster within striking distance. Stoner comes into the season with 750 career points while Mathe has 725 and Fairman has 682. Stapleton is a little further away with 539, but she'll have two seasons to reach the mark.
THREE'S COMPANYThe Crimson Hawks set a program record with 195 3-pointers last season. They finished 2nd in the PSAC with 7 made 3s per game and were 12th in Division II with a 38.2 3FG%. IUP players had four of the top eight 3-point percentages in school history, including Fairman (43.3 - 1st), Stamp (41.4 - 3rd), Stapleton (40.1 - 5th) and Mathe (38.9 - 8th). Stapleton's 59 3s are also 5th all-time in a single season at IUP.
