IUPAthletics.comTHE GAMEThe Crimson Hawks open up their 2014-15 home season as they play host to Ohio Valley Tuesday. IUP currently holds a 4-1 all-time series lead over the Fighting Scots, with the last meeting between the two coming during the 2005-06 season.
LAST TIME OUTThe Crimson Hawks are coming off a successful weekend in West Chester at the Carol Eckman Tournament. The tournament featured four teams - IUP, West Chester, Condoria and The Sciences - and the Crimson Hawks came away with two wins. Friday, IUP overcame The Sciences 75-57, then grabbed a 96-62 victory over Concordia Saturday.
SCOUTING OHIO VALLEYThe Fighting Scots are coming off of a 0-2 start to their season. Last weekend they fell to Oakland City University 77-71, and the University of Southern Indiana 84-41. Ohio Valley is led by Sr. G Danielle Dunnagan, Sr. F Ndeye Meissa Diop and Sr. G Angelique Green. Dunnagan has tallied a total 28 points, 5 assists and 10 rebounds in the teams first two games, with Diop adding 21 points, 8 rebounds, and scoring 3-of-4 from the foul line. Green has been a perfect 6-for-6 in free throws, and has posted 19 points.
WHAT'S NEXTThe Crimson Hawks hit the road Saturday, November 22, when they travel to Seton Hill for a 3 PM tipoff with the Griffins. Currently, IUP holds a 2-1 all-time series lead over Seton Hill. The two teams last met February 8, 2014 at the KCAC where the Crimson Hawks clinched a 81-60 win.

Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) enters this matchup just 27 points shy of 1,000 for her career. She's scored 774 points so far in her three seasons at IUP with another 199 during her freshman season at Mercyhurst.
Last year was a career year for Stamp in her first as a full-time starter, opening with seven consecutive games of 20-plus points, including 35 points against Pitt-Johnstown on Nov. 20.
GOING FOR 1000, PART 2Stamp might be the closest to the 1,000-point milestone, but she's not the only player on the roster within striking distance. Sr. F
Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) currently has a total 784 career points while Sr. G
Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) has 747 and Sr. G
Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) has 706. R-Jr. G
Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) is a little further away with 545, but she'll have two season to reach the mark.
STONER'S DOUBLE-DOUBLEThe Crimson Hawks cruised to a 75-57 win Friday, November 14, in their season-opener against The University of the Sciences. The team was led by Stoner who posted her first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds, 4 offensive and 6 defensive, and 19 total points.
STAMP OF APPROVALTo date, Stamp has a total 16 20-point games during her career at IUP. In her first season with the Hawks, Stamp posted three 20-point games. Last season, she earned 11, including the first seven games of the season. Already this season, Stamp has recorded two consecutive 21-point games against The Sciences and Concordia.
STARTING OFF STRONGThis season marks the fourth consectuive season that the Crimson Hawks have started off 2-0. Last year's first two victories came from Bluefield State (56-45) and Fairmont State (62-46).
STEALING THE SHOWAmy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) opens the 2014-15 season with a total 7 steals in two games. She currently leads the team in steals with 3.5-per-game, and 192 over her four seasons with the Crimson Hawks. This year, she is followed by Stamp who has tallied five total steals.
FRESHMEN TO WATCH Fr. Gs
Monica Burns (New Stanton, Pa. /Hempfield ) and
Halle Denman (Beaver Falls, Pa. /Blackhawk) both made their collegiate debut last weekend in West Chester. Burns saw action in both games, and recorded 5 points in just 9 minutes against The Sciences. Burns took the court against Concordia, and put up 3 points, 1 assist and 4 rebounds in 10 minutes. Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) and
Courteney Storm (Hollidaysburg, Pa. /Hollidaysburg). Each new Crimson Hawk comes to IUP after
being a 1,000 point-scorer in their high school careers.
MATHE WITH THE ASSISTMathe returns for her final season as a Crimson Hawk as the leader in assists with seven in the first two competitions. In her four seasons, she has recorded a total 199 assists, and is tied with Fairman with 2.5 APG.
THREE'S COMPANYIUP is notorious for its three-pointers, posting a program record 195 last season. They finished 2nd in the PSAC with 7 made 3s per game and were 12th in Division II with a 38.2 3FG%.
IUP players had four of the top eight 3-point percentages in school history, including Fairman (43.3 - 1st), Stamp (41.4 - 3rd), Stapleton (40.1 - 5th) and Mathe (38.9 - 8th). Stapleton's 59 3s are also 5th all-time in a single season at IUP. This season, Fairman, Stamp and Mathe have already tallied seven 3-pointers each.
