Hot-Shooting Crimson Hawks Pull Away at Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, PA – Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) scored a game-high 27 points to help lift IUP to a 73-64 win over Seton Hill at Slavitti Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon in Greensburg.
 
It was Stamp's fourth 20-point game of the year as the Crimson Hawks improved to 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with the win over the rival Griffins.
 
Stamp also grabbed seven rebounds and had two blocks and a steal as she fouled out in 27 minutes of action. She went 10-of-14 from the field, including 6-of-7 from three-point range.
 
IUP shot nearly 52 percent from the field, draining 11-of-25 three-pointers, and outrebounded the Griffins 39-to-23.
 
In addition to Stamp's seven boards, Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) and Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) each grabbed a team-best eight on the day. Mathe also had a game-high six assists.
 
The Crimson Hawks held the lead for nearly the entire first half, but they still held a slim 29-26 advantage after a layup by Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) with 32 seconds to go before halftime.
 
IUP increased its lead to seven early in the second half on a three by Stapleton, and later by on one by Stamp to grab a 39-31 lead with 17:06 to play. Another three by Stamp put IUP on top 47-35 with just under 14 minutes to play, but the Griffins responded with an 11-3 run to cut their deficit to just four with 11:20 to play.
 
The Crimson Hawks came back with a 9-0 run and later took a 68-57 lead on Stamp's last three of the game with 1:40 to play, before taking the nine-point win.
 
In addition to Stamp's 27, Stapleton and Stoner each tallied 14 points on the day, going a combined 11-of-17 from the field. Stapleton also went 4-of-6 from three-point range and had five assists.
 
The Crimson Hawks are back in action next Wednesday when they host Shepherd in the Kovalchick Complex. That game will tipoff at 11 a.m.
