Crimson Hawks Play Host to Shepherd Wednesday

THE GAME
The Crimson Hawks return to the KCAC Wednesday for an 11 AM matchup with the Shepherd Rams.  Currently, IUP holds a 4-2 all-time series record over Shepherd after defeating them last season 78-53.  Before that, the two teams last met in 2007 when the Crimson Hawks found a 81-77 victory.   
 
LAST TIME OUT
Saturday, IUP saw their first PSAC opponent of the 2014-15 season when they traveled to Greensburg, Pa. to take on the Seton Hill Griffins.  The Crimson Hawks recorded a .519 FG%, .800 FT% and 39 total rebounds to lift them to a 73-64 win over the Griffins.  This game improved IUP's record to 4-0 on the season, 1-0 in the PSAC.  

SCOUTING SHEPHERD
The Rams come into Wednesday's game 4-0 overall.  Already they this season, they have found victories against St. Augustine's, Winston-Salem State (in overtime), Glenville State College, and West Virginia Wesleyan.  The team is led by Sr. G Rachel Johnson, So. F Liz Myers, R-So. F Cara Mason and Fr. G Morgan Arden. Offensively, Arden has scored 72 points followed by Johnson with 43.  Myers has tallied 39 rebounds, 5 blocks and 41 points.  Mason leads Shepherd defensively with 17 steals.  She has also put up 21 rebounds and 17 assists.  

WHAT'S NEXT
The Crimson Hawks will continue a streak of five consecutive home games Dec. 2 when they play host to the Mercyhurst Lakers at the KCAC at 5:30 PM.  

LOOKING TOWARDS 1000
Sr. G Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) might have reached her 1,000-point milestone, but she's not the only player on the roster within striking distance. Sr. F Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) currently has a total 810 career points while Sr. G Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) has 755 and Sr. G Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) has 727.  R-Jr. G Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) is a little further away with 570, but she'll have two season to reach the mark.  

STAMP OF APPROVAL
To date, Stamp has a total 18 20-point games during her career at IUP.  In her first season with the Hawks, Stamp posted three 20-point games.  Last season, she earned 11, including the first seven games of the season.  Already this season, Stamp has recorded four consecutive 21-point games against The Sciences, Concordia, Ohio Valley and Seton Hill.  

STARTING OFF STRONG
This season marks the fourth consectuive season that the Crimson Hawks have started off 4-0.  Last year's first three victories came from Bluefield State (56-45), Fairmont State (62-46), Pitt-Johnstown (96-72), and Clarion (70-45).

FROM THE FOUL LINE 
So far this season, the Crimson Hawks have put up points on 70-of-91 shots from the foul line, giving the team a .769 FT%. Leading IUP from the line is Stoner with 18-of-19, and Fairman with 8-of-9.  

PSAC LEADER BOARDS
Three Crimson Hawks have found places towards the top of the PSAC leader boards this season.  Stamp leads the conference in 3FG% with .636, and is second in scoring with 97 points in just four games.  Stoner finds herself in third place in FG% with .636.  16 total steals, 4.0-per-game, have placed Fairman at second in the conference.  The team has clinched first place in defensive rebounds with 111, and second place in FT% with .769.    

STEALING THE SHOW
Fairman opens the 2014.15 season with 16 total steals in just four games.  She currently leads the team in steals with 4.0-per-game, and 201 over her four seasons with the Crimson Hawks.  

In three games, IUP has tallied a total 40 steals including 11 against The Sciences, 10 against Concordia, 13 against Ohio Valley, and 6 against Seton Hill.  

FRESHMEN TO WATCH 
Fr. Gs Monica Burns (New Stanton, Pa. /Hempfield ) and Halle Denman (Beaver Falls, Pa. /Blackhawk) both made their collegiate debut last weekend in West Chester.  So far this season, Denman has seen action against Concordia, where she tallied three points, and Ohio Valley.  Burns has taken the court in all three of IUP's games.  She is 2-for-2 from the foul line, and added five points against The Sciences.  Fr. Gs Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) saw her first collegiate action against Seton Hill.  Smith recorded 2 points in 9 minutes. Other newcomer to join the team is Fr. G Courteney Storm (Hollidaysburg, Pa. /Hollidaysburg).  Each new Crimson Hawk comes to IUP after being a 1,000 point-scorer in their high school careers.  

MATHE WITH THE ASSIST
In just four games, the Crimson Hawks have already added 75 assists, averaging 18.8-per-game.  Topping the statistical 
leader boards in assists is Mathe with 19 total, 4.8-per-game.  In the PSAC, currently holds sixth place in total assists.  

THREE'S COMPANY
IUP is notorious for its three-pointers, posting a program record 195 last season.  They finished 2nd in the PSAC with 7 made 3s per game and were 12th in Division II with a 38.2 3FG%. 

IUP players had four of the top eight 3-point percentages in school history, including Fairman (43.3 - 1st), Stamp (41.4 - 3rd), Stapleton (40.1 - 5th) and Mathe (38.9 - 8th). Stapleton's 59 3s are also 5th all-time in a single season at IUP. 

This season, Fairman leads the team with 7 three-pointers, followed by Stamp with 6, and Stapleton and Mathe with 4.
