Women's Basketball Gets Back to PSAC Play Against Mercyhurst

THE GAME
The Crimson Hawks continue their streak of home games Wednesday when they play host to the Mercyhurst Lakers.  This matchup with be the team's second of the season.  Their first PSAC competition came just two weeks ago when IUP traveled to Greensburg to face Seton Hill.  Overall, the Crimson Hawks hold a 17-4 record over the Lakers.   
 
LAST TIME OUT
Last Wednesday, IUP defeated Shepherd in front of a record breaking crowd on Education Day.  This game brought in 2,022 fans, including students and teachers from Homer Center, Purchase Line and Marion Center elementary schools.  The Crimson Hawks came out strong, and earned a 85-52 victory, adding another win to their so-far-perfect 5-0 record.  

SCOUTING MERCYHURST
The Lakers come into this game 1-5.  The team found it's only win from Tiffin University (Ohio).  Losses have come from West Liberty University, Notre Dame College (Ohio), California (PA), Gannon and University of Findlay.  Offensively, Mercyhurst is led by Jr. G Adrienne Kloecker, 103 points this year, and So. F Natalie Piaggesi, 73 points.  So. G Angela Heintz leads the team defensively with 9 steals, followed by So. G Hayley Andres and Kloecker with 7 each.  

WHAT'S NEXT
The Crimson Hawks will continue a streak of five consecutive home games Dec. 6 when they host the Gannon Golden Knights for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff at the KCAC.  

LOOKING TOWARDS 1000
Sr. G Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) might have reached her 1,000-point milestone, but she's not the only player on the roster within striking distance. Sr. F Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) currently has a total 810 career points while Sr. G Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) has 755 and Sr. G Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) has 727.  R-Jr. G Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) is a little further away with 570, but she'll have two season to reach the mark.  

STAMP OF APPROVAL
To date, Stamp has a total 18 20-point games during her career at IUP.  In her first season with the Hawks, Stamp posted three 20-point games.  Last season, she earned 11, including the first seven games of the season.  Already this season, Stamp has recorded four consecutive 21-point games against The Sciences, Concordia, Ohio Valley and Seton Hill.  

PSAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Monday, the PSAC announced Stamp as the PSAC West Athlete of the Week.  This honor comes after the Crimson Hawk posted her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds last Wednesday against Shepherd.  In addition, Stamp added three assists and two blocks in just 21 minutes of play in the blowout win.

FROM THE FOUL LINE 
Free throws have proven to be no challenge for the Crimson Hawks this season.  In just five games, they have sunk 91-of-118 shots, averaging .771 FT% and 18.2 free throws made per-game.  

PSAC LEADER BOARDS
Currently, all five starters for the Crimson Hawks have found their place in the top five of one of the PSAC leader boards.  Stoner is sitting in first for field goal percentage, making 29-of-48 in five games, giving her a FG% of .604.  

Stamp is in the top five in three categories, including first in scoring with a total 22.8 points per-game and 114 in the season.  She is second in three-point field goalpercentage with .536 3FG%, and third in three-point field goals per-game, averaging 3.0.   

Fairman holds the second slot in steals with 19 this season, and an average of 3.8 per-game.  Stapleton is sitting behind Stamp in 3FG% after making 11-of-21 for a .524 3FG%.  Lastly is Mathe holding the fifth slot in the PSAC for assists.  The senior has 25 already this season, averaging 5.0 per-game.  

STEALING THE SHOW
Fairman opens the 2014.15 season with 19 total steals in just five games.  She currently leads the team in steals with 3.8-per-game, and 233 over her four seasons with the Crimson Hawks.  In three games, IUP has tallied a total 46 steals.

MATHE WITH THE ASSIST
In just four games, the Crimson Hawks have already added 93 assists, averaging 18.6-per-game.  Topping the statistical leader boards in assists is Mathe with 25 total, 5.0-per-game.  

THREE'S COMPANY
IUP is notorious for its three-pointers, posting a program record 195 last season.  They finished 2nd in the PSAC with 7 made 3s per game and were 12th in Division II with a 38.2 3FG%. 

IUP players had four of the top eight 3-point percentages in school history, including Fairman (43.3 - 1st), Stamp (41.4 - 3rd), Stapleton (40.1 - 5th) and Mathe (38.9 - 8th). Stapleton's 59 3s are also 5th all-time in a single season at IUP. 

This season, Stamp leads the team with 15 3s in the team's five games.  Following her are Stapleton with 11, and Fairman with 8.
