Women's Swimming Takes Two Dual Victories on Senior Night at Crimson Hawk Invite


INDIANA, PA – The IUP women's swim team claimed 20 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying mark and one NCAA B mark, sweeping Bloomsburg and Gannon at the Crimson Hawk Invitational.

The Crimson Hawks crushed the competition, defeating Bloomsburg 281-102 and Gannon 275-137.

Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ), Dana Steinert (Kent, Ohio/Kent Theodore Roosevelt) and Nicole Stevenson (Delmont, Pa. /Franklin Regional) all hit PSAC qualifying times in the 500 yard freestyle. Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ) took first place with a time of 5:14.58, followed by Steinert's time of 5:17.42 and Stevenson's 5:19.34.

Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Paige Spradling (Lancaster, Pa. /Hempfield) took first and second place in the 200 yard individual medely, finishing with times of 2:10.87 and 2:14.78, respectively.

In the 50 yard freestyle, Taylor Snyder (Titusville, Pa. /Titusville) set IUP's only NCAA B mark, finishing in first place with a time of 24.21.

For the 400 yard individual medely, Mitidieri, Spradling and Emily Clark (Cresco/Pocono Mountain East) all finished with PSAC qualifying times. Finishing in first, second and third, Mitidieri posted a time of 4:35.31, followed by Spradling at 4:43.68 and Clark at 4:50.72.

Two Crimson Hawks qualified for the PSAC championships in the 100 yard butterfly. Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) took first place with a time of 58.76 followed by Allison Humphries in second with a time of 1:00.82.

Dana Steinert (Kent, Ohio/Kent Theodore Roosevelt)'s time of 1:59.26 was good for first place and a PSAC qualifying time in the 200 yard freestyle. Emily Shumaker (Carlisle/Big Spring) posted a 1:01.17 in the 100 yard back, both a PSAC mark and a second place finish.

In the 1,000 yard freestyle, Stevenson posted a time of 10:53.35, good for first place and a PSAC mark. Humphries followed that up with a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.89.

Snyder continued her successful evening with a first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.99.

In the 200 yard breaststroke, Spradling and Mitidieri again hit PSAC marks with times of 2:26.36 and 2:26.82, respectively.

The Crimson Hawks closed out a successful two days with first and second place finishes in the 200 yard butterfly. Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) took first place with a time of 2:08.19 and Humphries claimed second with a time of 2:13.53. Both were PSAC qualifying times.

IUP was successful in relays as well, taking first place in the 200 yard freestyle relay, the 400 yard medely relay, the 200 yard medely relay, the 800 yard freestyle relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay.

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Snyder, Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area), Shumaker and Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ) led the first place team with a time of 1:38.84. The Crimson Hawks also claimed third place in the race with a time of 1:42.94 from Nicole Newman, Humphries, Gabriella Guttman and Spradling.

The Crimson Hawks took first and second place in the 400 yard medely relay. The first place team, consisting of Shumaker, Mitidieri, Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) and Snyder finished with a time of 4:00.31. They were followed by the second place team consisting of Caroline Rudkin (Willow Grove, Pa. /Upper Dublin), Humphries, Clark and Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ) who posted a time of 4:06.67.

Shumaker, Mitidieri, Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) and Snyder claimed first place in the 200 yard medely relay with a time of 1:50.38. The Crimson Hawks also finished in third place in the race led by Rudkin, Clark, Humphries and Newman's time of 1:54.40.

In the 800 yard freestyle, Guttman, Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area), Stevenson and Mitidieri took first place with a time of 8:03.31.

The final relay victory of the evening came in the 400 yard freestyle with a team consisting of Snyder, Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area), Shumaker and Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ). Their time of 3:40.70 was nearly six seconds ahead of the second place Bloomsburg team.

The women took 16 first place finishes in the 18 total events of the night.

The event also honored the eight seniors on the team, Clark, Samantha Conrad, Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ), Mitidieri, Newman, Erin O'Leary (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's), Christina Soracco (Ingram/PA Cyber) and Stephanie Soracco (Ingram/PA Cyber).

IUP will hit the pool again for the PSAC championships Feb. 20 through Feb. 23 from York, Pa.
