PSAC Release

LOCK HAVEN, PA - The IUP men's swimming team has been honored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) as a winner of the conference's team GPA award for 2013-14, as it was announced Tuesday afternoon.

These awards are given at the end of the academic year to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average in each respective sport. The league hosts a total of 23 championships, but indoor and outdoor track are counted as one sport.

IUP men's swimming has won the award for its sport in all three years the honor has been given. The men posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.098, which is a .027 raise from a year ago, and .118 higher than the 2011-12 season.

IUP is one of eight institutions to win a team GPA award, including California (PA), Clarion, Edinboro, Gannon, Mercyhurst, Seton Hill, and Slippery Rock. Seton Hill led the conference by winning seven of the 21 awards.

The PSAC average GPA for the year was 3.09, which is a .03 raise from last season, and a .05 raise since the award began. Of the winning teams, 13 posted a GPA of at least 3.4, two better than a year ago. Six teams are repeat winners from a year ago, and five of those are three-time winners.
