ERIE, PA – Three Crimson Hawks advanced to the third round of singles play as IUP competed in the first day of the ITA Atlantic Region Women's Tennis Championships on the campus of Mercyhurst University on Saturday.
 
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston), Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) and Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) each tallied second round wins to move on to the third round, which will be contested on Sunday.
 
After receiving a first round bye, Timko took down Julia Uchoa of West Virginia Wesleyan 6-4, 6-2. McFail defeated Paula Pimenta of Wesleyan 7-5, 6-3 while Wood beat Adina Spahalic of Mercyhurst 6-2, 6-2. Both McFail and Wood cruised to first round wins, defeating Alex Barr of West Liberty (6-4, 7-5) and Kelsey Hensley of Charleston (6-0, 6-2), respectively.
 
In doubles play, the only IUP pairing advancing to the third round is Timko and Luise Von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium), who defeated Annie Baich Saioa Gomez 8-6 in the second round. They beat Slippery Rock's Courtney Gallagher and Stephanie Fortier 8-3 in the first round.
