ERIE, PA – Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) won the consolation singles final and teamed with Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) for the doubles consolation title on the second day of the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships at Mercyhurst University on Sunday.
 
Gonzalez went 4-0 in singles play on the second day alone, starting off with an 8-3 win over Jesse Burrell of Cal in the second round. She then defeated Courtney Pierron of Charleston 8-0 and then teammate Katrine Gransoe (Holte, Denmark/KNORD HHX) 8-5 to advance to the consolation finals. It was there that she defeated West Liberty's Raquel Cabero 8-5 to clinch the perfect day.
 
She and Butland also went 3-0 in doubles as they captured that consolation bracket title earlier in the day with an 8-5 win over Slippery Rock's Stephanie Fortier and Courtney Gallagher.
 
In the main bracket, the Crimson Hawks had two quarterfinal matches on Sunday. In singles play, Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) had advanced after a third round 6-4, 5-7 (10-5) victory over Cal's Lucie Rey. She then fell in the quarterfinals to Mercyhurst's Adrianna Jeffress 6-4, 6-0.
 
In doubles play, Timko paired with Luise Von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) to advance to Sunday's quarterfinals, where they fell to Cal's Rey and Ramona Czakon 8-6.
 
This wraps up regional play for the Crimson Hawks, who will be in action next weekend in Morgantown at the West Virginia University Invitational.
