MORGANTOWN, WV –
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) picked up IUP's lone victory as the Crimson Hawks competed in West Virginia University's Pink Invitational on Friday at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts.
McFail defeated Aleksandra Golawska of Cleveland State 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the opening day of singles competition.
Other Crimson Hawks to compete on the singles side were
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School), Louise Von Agris,
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon),
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) and
Katrine Gransoe (Holte, Denmark/KNORD HHX), who all fell to players from host West Virginia.
In doubles play, IUP was paired with teams from Cleveland State, with the Vikings taking each of the three matches. Butland and Gonzalez teamed for the closest match of the day, falling 6-4 to Ellen Folkers and Jana Schober.
Day two of the Pink Invitational will get underway at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
