Women's Volleyball Edged by Seton Hill

INDIANA, PA - Even with Lisa Kissell (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Salem), Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) and Lauren Hester (State College, Pa. /State College) recording 13 kills throughout the five sets, IUP couldn't get the best of the Griffins and dropped in the fifth game Saturday.

Seton Hill quickly took the first set 25-12, but were defeated by the Crimson Hawks in sets two and three.  IUP fought to secure each win by defeating the Griffins in two close matches, 25-19 and 25-20.

IUP started the second set strong with a quick 4-0 lead.  They had another scoring streak in the middle of the set when they earned five straight points.  The third set began with a 2-0 Griffins lead, but the Crimson Hawks quickly caught up and answered with three points of their own.  Their last set win of the day ended with two kills by Hester and one by Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) to secure the 25-20 finish.

Despite their best efforts, IUP couldn't overcome Seton Hill and fell 25-19 and 15-5 in the final two sets.

In addition to Kissell, Sova and Hester recording high numbers of kills, Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) also completed 10.  Katie Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) added 35 assists, a team high of the day and her third highest of the season.

On defense, Joie Hrapla (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Bishop Canevin) had 20 digs, followed by Hester with 16, Palmer and Jenna Veverka (York, Pa. /Central York) with 10, and Miller with 9.

IUP, now 6-7 overall, will next travel to Clarion for a 7:00 p.m. match Sept. 30.  The Crimson Hawks will then return to the KCAC for back-to-back home games against Mercyhurst and Gannon Oct. 3 and 4.
