MILLERSVILLE, PA –
Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) scored the game-winner in the 33rd minute to help lift IUP to a 2-1 road victory over Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
The victory lifted the Crimson Hawks to a 6-1-1 overall record, as their total points are second in the conference behind West Chester's 21. Millersville falls to 4-3 overall.
The Marauders took the early lead, getting a goal by Halie Parker in the ninth minute, a through ball from Logan Neiman.
IUP tied the game in the 22nd minute, with
Lexie Palluconi (Penfield, N.Y./Fairport) threading the back of the net off a rebound for her first career goal. The shot was a part of a heavy offensive dose by the Crimson Hawks, who had a corner and four shots in a 4:11 span.
The eventual game-winner came less than 11 minutes later when
Victoria Crawford (Port Matilda, Pa. /State College) found Kuhns with a crossing pass that she headed into the net for her fifth goal of the season. The score was slightly reminiscent of the goal against Slippery Rock in which the two hooked up for the game-winner in the 1-0 overtime win.
Defense helped the Crimson Hawks in the second half, as they limited Millersville to half of the amount of shots it produced in the first 45 minutes of play. IUP goalie
Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) posted seven saves on the day, her third straight game of seven or more saves. She has 22 saves and has given up two goals in her last three games, a stretch of 295:06.
The Marauders had two shots in the final six minutes, but neither could find the net as IUP secured the win.
Kuhns is now second in the PSAC in both goals (five) and goals per game (.625) while Printz's save percentage of .904 is second best among regular goalies in the conference.
The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to West Virginia to face Alderson Broaddus.
