Women's Tennis Impressive Against Division I Opponents at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, PA - The IUP women's tennis team opened up the 2014 fall season at the Bucknell Invitational on Friday and looked strong against the lineup of Division I opponents.
 
Two doubles teams claimed victories in the first round, as Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and Luise Von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) defeated Lanciano and Eberle of Concordia 8-1; and Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) took down Ana Krawiec and Julie Clark of Loyola 8-2.
 
Timko and Von Agris moved on to defeat a team from Loyola 9-7. Butland and Gonzalez, however, fell to Concordia 8-0.
 
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) and Katrine Gransoe (Holte, Denmark/KNORD HHX) fell to Emily Hughes and Olivia Ott of Loyola 8-6. Ally Rees (Morgantown, W.Va./University High School) and Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) dropped their match against host Bucknell 8-2.
 
McFail and Gransoe would win their consolation match against Colgate 9-7, but Rees and Wood fell to Colgate 8-1.
 
In singles play, Von Argis claimed a 3-6, 6-3 (10-8) comeback victory over Michele Urbinati of Bucknell while Butland took a 6-3, 6-1 win over Clark of Loyola.
 
Timko fell 2-6, 7-5 (8-10) in singles play against Romana Tabak of Concordia. Wood claimed a victory in the B draw main round, defeating a player from Loyola 4-6, 6-3 (10-6).

The tournament continues tomorrow and runs through Sunday.
