Timko and Gransoe Win Finals Matches on Final Day of Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, PA – Katrine Gransoe (Holte, Denmark/KNORD HHX) won the "C" flight title and Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) was victorious in the "A" flight consolation finals to cap off a successful weekend for the IUP women's tennis team at Bucknell's Fall Invitational.
 
Gransoe defeated Nicole Eberle of Loyola 6-7(12), 6-2, 10-5 for the win on Sunday. She started her morning by finishing off her opponent from last night, defeating Bucknell's Emily Bush 6-3, 7-6(4), 10-2. That semifinal match was suspended late last night due to rain, with Gransoe up 6-3, 3-5.
 
Timko's victory came over Loyola's Julie Clark in the consolation final, winning 6-3, 6-3.   
 
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) advanced to the finals of the "B" flight, but fell to Bucknell's Madeline Melch by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Ally Rees (Morgantown, W.Va./University High School) also competed today, falling in the consolation final of the "C" flight by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
 
In doubles play, Timko and Luise Von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) fell in their semifinal match to a pair from Bucknell by a score of 8-4. Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) and Gransoe also lost to a team from Bucknell in the consolation finals by a score of 8-7(0).
 
The Crimson Hawks were the only Division II team at the invitational that featured four Division I schools – Bucknell, Concordia (NY), Loyola (MD) and Colgate. Including the three singles flights and the lone doubles bracket, IUP advanced to a combined six of the eight possible finals or consolation finals matches.
 
IUP is back in action this weekend in West Chester when they compete in the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Tennis Individual Championships.
