RESULTSINDIANA, PA - After the first day of the Crimson Hawk Invitational, men's and women's swimming are both ahead of Gannon and Bloomsburg.
The women's team leads Gannon 56-35, and Bloomsburg 54-37. Out of five events, the Crimson Hawks finished first two.
Paige Spradling (Lancaster, Pa. /Hempfield) won the women's 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:11.81, two whole seconds before the second place finisher from Bloomsburg.
In the women's 50 Yard Freestyle,
Taylor Snyder (Titusville, Pa. /Titusville) hit the wall first in just 24.38 seconds.
In tonight's relay's, the women found second and third place finishes. In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Snyder, Spradling,
Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) and
Emily Shumaker (Carlisle/Big Spring) finished behind Gannon with a combined time of 1:39.08.
In the 400 Yard Medley,
Laura Silva (Cali, Colombia/Colegro Bowtista),
Allie Humphries (Vineland, N.J./Vineland),
Taylor Campbell (Butler, Pa. /Butler) and
Gabriella Guttman (Allentown, Pa. /Salisbury ) finished third with a time of 4:09.93.
The men finished the day ahead of Gannon, 68-23, and Bloomsburg, 51-40. IUP found three first place finishes, including a win in one of the day's relays.
Brandon Hopkins (Marion, Va./Marion) found a first place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:47.49. He was followed by
Chris Strauss (Allentown, Pa. /Parkland) who finished in second just a second later, 4:48.85.
In the men's 50 Yard Freestyle,
Andrew Richey (Warminster, Pa. /William Tennent) finished first in just 21.61 seconds. This event proved to be a tight race with the second place finisher from Bloomsburg coming in at 21.63.
The Crimson Hawks finished in 3:29.89 and earned first place in the men's 400 Yard Medley. This race was completed by
Rudy Da Costa (Durban, KZN, South Africa/Westville Boys'),
Ben Adams (Katy, Texas/Cypress Springs),
Zach Fountain (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and
Yuri Fernandes (Brazil).
The Crimson Hawks will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Crimson Hawks Invitational.
