Stamp Reaches Career Milestone in 95-63 Victory over Cheyney

INDIANA, PA – With 15:09 remaining in the game, Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) sunk a layup, giving her 21 points for the game, and 1,000 points in her three-year IUP career.  Her 21 points helped the No. 16 Crimson Hawks find a 95-63 victory over the Cheyney Lady Wolves, Wednesday at the Kovalchick Complex.

Earlier in the season, Stamp reached her 1,000 total career points, with the help of 199 points she earned during her freshmen year at Mercyhurst.  With the addition of tonight's 21, she now has 1,199 career points.

Stamp missed a double-double by just one rebound, finishing the game with nine total boards, three assists and one steal.

The Crimson Hawks managed the 40 minute competition without giving Cheyney the lead.  Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) attacked first in the game with a shot from behind the arc.  IUP's largest first half lead came with just three minutes left on the clock, when the Lady Wolves were behind 39-18.

At the half, Cheyney trailed by 20, 46-26.  This game marks the 12th time this season that the Crimson Hawks have come out on top after being the halftime leader.

While Stamp led the team in points and rebounds, this win was a team effort with 12 players seeing playing time on the court.

An impact player across all aspects, Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) finished the night with 11 points, four rebounds, and one assist, block and steal.  Another double-figure scorer, Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana), finished with 10 points, in addition to her six assists and three rebounds.

Other IUP starters, Fairman and Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana), each put up nine points.  The pair also added a combined six rebounds and assists.

All players coming off the bench made plays in tonight's game.  Marina Wareham (New Wilmington, Pa. /Kennedy Catholic), Amy Graham (Zanesville, Ohio/West Muskingum), Monica Burns (New Stanton, Pa. /Hempfield ), Alexis Aiken (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Allegheny), Lisa Burton (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Penn Hills), Halle Denman (Beaver Falls, Pa. /Blackhawk) and Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) added a combined 35 points, including eight from Wareham.  Aiken also tallied a career-high six rebounds.

The Crimson Hawks finished the night 20-of-27 from the foul line, an FT% of 74.1.  From the field, the team shot 52.3%, and went 7-of-20 from behind the arc.  Despite three Lady Wolves putting up double-figure points, the team's 18 turnovers put IUP in a good position to attack.

This win improved the Crimson Hawks' overall record to 13-0, 9-0 in the PSAC.  This is the best start the women's basketball program has seen since its 16-0 start in 1999-2000.

Saturday, IUP will travel to California (Pa.) for a PSAC West battle.  Currently, the Crimson Hawks hold the No. 1 seed in the western conference, with the Vulcans sitting behind at No. 2.  In addition to high PSAC placements, each team is ranked in the USA TODAY Sports/WBCA Poll with IUP at No. 16 and California at No. 25.

Saturday's tipoff against the Vulcans is set for 3:00 p.m.
