Moeller Hits 2,000 Career Assist Mark in Friday’s Women’s Volleyball Crossover Losses

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – IUP junior setter Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) reached 2,000 career assists on Friday as the Crimson Hawks fell to Pitt-Johnstown and Millersville in a pair of women's volleyball Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover matches.
 
IUP lost to UPJ in straight sets in the morning before dropping a five-setter to Millersville in the evening.
 
The losses drop the Crimson Hawks to 13-7 overall and 6-5 in PSAC play. UPJ is now 17-3 and 10-1 while Millersville is 11-9 and 3-8.
 
Moeller became the fourth player in IUP program history to reach the 2,000 assist plateau, joining Lacey George (6,473), Chelsey Kreinbrook (2,783), and Alicia Koches (2,631). Moeller hit 2,000 assists exactly after posting 26 in the day's opening match against UPJ. She added 14 more against Millersville and heads into Saturday's contest's with 2,014 for her career.
 
IUP lost to UPJ by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-20. The Crimson Hawks took the first set against Millersville 25-21 before dropping the next two sets by identical 25-17 scores. They came back to tie the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set before dropping the fifth 15-6.
 
Sophomore Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) led all scorers with 27.5 points on Friday, including 26 kills. Junior Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) finished with 17 combined kills while senior Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) had 13. McWilliams and Schneider combined for eight total blocks.
 
Sophomore Katie Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) stepped in against Millersville and finished with 29 assists. Freshman Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) had 43 total digs on the day, including 28 against Millersville.
 
The Crimson Hawks get back to action on Saturday, heading east to Lock Haven to face the Bald Eagles and Shippensburg.
