EDINBORO, Pa. – The Crimson Hawks totaled 18 conference qualifying times as the IUP men's swimming team rolled up a 132-69 dual meet win over Edinboro on Friday night.
Senior
Yuri Fernandes (Brazil) tallied three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times, earning wins in the 100 freestyle (47.43) and the 200 freestyle (1:42.90), while finishing second in the 200 IM (2:04.07).
Fellow senior
Alex Plimpton (Harrison City, Pa. /Penn-Trafford) secured two PSAC qualifying times, finishing in first place in both the 500 and 1000 freestyle with times of 4:49.37 and 9:54.68, respectively. Junior
Andrew Richey (Warminster, Pa. /William Tennent) also hit a pair, winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.74 while also earning a qualifying time in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.61.
Swimming in their first meet at IUP, sophomore
Mason Tate (York, Pa. /Dallastown) and freshman
Noah Brockway (York, PA/Dallastown) both picked up a pair of conference qualifying times. Tate in the 100 backstroke (55.08) and the 200 freestyle (1:49.90) and Brockway in the 50 freestyle (22.21) and the 100 backstroke (53.78).
Seven more Crimson Hawks earned qualifying times, including junior
Chris Strauss (Allentown, Pa. /Parkland) in the 1000 freestyle; sophomore
Shane Hallett (Boiling Springs, Pa. /Boiling Springs) in the 100 breaststroke; sophomores
Russell Oliver (Barbados/Kelly College) and
Mace Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa. /Hollidaysburg Area) in the 100 butterfly; sophomore Corey Stauffer in the 100 freestyle; freshman RJ Hammond in the 100 butterfly; and freshman
Colter Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa. /Hollidaysburg Area) in the 200 IM.
The Crimson Hawks return to the pool next Saturday with another dual meet, this one in Shippensburg against the Raiders on Saturday, Oct. 24.
