SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The IUP women's volleyball team saw its seven-match win streak come to a halt with a three-set loss at Slippery Rock on Friday night.
The loss was the first for the Crimson Hawks since Sept. 15 and was also their first in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play as they fall to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in the league.
IUP held a 10-7 opening set lead and was also on top 23-22 before ultimately falling 25-23. Slippery Rock never trailed in sets two and three, winning by scores of 25-20 and 25-15. It was SRU's first conference win, improving to 8-10 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC.
Slippery Rock out-hit the Crimson Hawks, finishing with a hitting percentage of .265 to IUP's .037. IUP had 33 combined errors over the three sets.
Sophomores
Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) and
Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield) each accounted for nine points, with Cignetti getting nine kills while Anderson had eight. Junior
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) accounted for 26 assists.
Freshman
Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) had a team-high 13 digs. Junior
Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) had two solo blocks, while Anderson and senior
Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) both had a pair of block assists.
The Crimson Hawks return to the court on Saturday at Edinboro.
