INDIANA, Pa. – Junior
Amber Bailey (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) scored and IUP field hockey never trailed Saturday in a 3-2 victory over No. 5 Kutztown to end the regular season.
Bailey's goal, her fifth on the season, was scored on a scramble in front of the net 16:08 into the first half, as the Crimson Hawks kept up the pressure on Kutztown to finish 8-10 on the season.
After the Golden Bears got on the board to tie the game later in the first half, IUP was able to get two goals in a 45-second stretch that was ultimately the difference in the game.
With the ball in the Kutztown zone, IUP strung passes together before freshman
Selena West (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) was able to poke the ball through to
Haley Fidler (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) for her fifth goal of the season.
Ericka Griffith (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) then scored her fourth goal of the year when she was able to score on a wide-open net to put the Crimson Hawks up for good at 3-1.
Kutztown, who drops to 12-6 overall, scored a late goal to finish the scoring.
In goal, freshman
Olivia Accardi (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) had four saves.
