INDIANA, Pa. – Sophomore
Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) tallied a match-high 15 kills but the IUP women's volleyball team couldn't overcome 51 total errors in a four-set loss to Mercyhurst on Friday night at the Memorial Field House.
It was Cignetti's 19th double-figure kill match of the season as Crimson Hawks fell to 16-15 overall on the year and 8-13 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Mercyhurst improved to 17-15 overall and 12-9 in the league.
Mercyhurst opened with wins of 25-20 and 25-10 in the first two sets. The Crimson Hawks came back with a 25-19 victory in the third before dropping the fourth 25-21.
The Crimson Hawks had 47 kills and hit .131, totaling seven blocks on the night. Sophomore
Gabrielle Egler (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Obama Academy) had two solo blocks and a block assist and finished with 11 kills. Senior
Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) had four block assists and tallied nine kills on 16 attacks.
Junior
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) had 36 assists and eight digs. Freshman
Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) finished with a match-high 16 digs and classmate
Breanna Damiani (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) added nine digs.
The Crimson Hawks will wrap up their season on Saturday when they host Gannon in the Kovalchick Complex at 2 p.m. IUP will celebrate Senior Day and honor Schneider prior to the match.
