LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Senior guard
Brandon Norfleet (Virginia Beach, Va. /Landstown) scored a team-high 18 points and seventh-ranked IUP shot 45 percent from the field, but the Crimson Hawks couldn't get past Division I Siena in an 82-73 exhibition loss on Monday night.
Norfleet played the entire 40 minutes for the Crimson Hawks, going 7-of-15 from the field and 4-of-6 from the foul line. He also had five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
IUP shot a sizzling 56.3 percent from the field (18-of-32) in the second half, scoring 43 points in the final 20 minutes after trailing 39-30 at the half. However, the Saints also scored 43 second half points as IUP wasn't able to close the gap.
13 of Norfleet's 18 points came in the second half alone.
The Crimson Hawks outrebounded Siena 38-to-37 and forced 16 turnovers, but committed 17 turnovers themselves had 22 personal fouls on the night. Siena shot 16-of-22 from the foul line and made eight three-pointers.
Senior forward
Daddy Ugbede (Gardena, Calif./Serra) scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and grabbed six rebounds in just 24 minutes on the court. Redshirt senior forward
Devon Cottrell (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Gateway) came off the bench to score 10 points and block three shots in 18 minutes.
Junior guard
Brandon Spain (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie) grabbed six boards and had three steals in 23 minutes and freshman forward
Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) and six points and a team-high seven rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.
This was IUP's only exhibition game on its 2015-16 preseason schedule. The Crimson Hawks will open up their regular season on Friday, Nov. 13 against Urbana in the S&T Bank Atlantic Region Challenge.
