CLARION, Pa. – Sophomore
Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield) had a team-high 10 kills for the Crimson Hawks but the IUP women's volleyball team couldn't get past Clarion in a three-set loss on Tuesday evening.
Clarion outhit the Crimson Hawks .240 to .038 as IUP's record fell to 16-12 overall and 8-10 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Golden Eagles improved to 17-13 and 13-5.
IUP dropped the match by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17. Anderson came off the bench to record double-figure kills for the first time in her last four matches. She also had two block assists to finish with 11.0 points on the night.
The opening set was tied at 10-10 before the Golden Eagles went on a 9-3 run to take a six-point lead. The Crimson Hawks came back to cut the deficit to two at 20-18, but Clarion scored five of the last six points to get the win.
Set two took a similar route, with the Crimson Hawks tying things at 8-8 before Clarion went on a 9-2 run. IUP battled back to make it a 22-18 score but Clarion closed out a six-point win.
Clarion jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third set and led by as many as 12 on two different occasions. IUP went on a late 10-5 run but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles closed out the victory.
Junior
Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) had eight kills, four digs and an ace. Classmate
Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) finished with eight digs, two aces and two total blocks.
The Crimson Hawks will host California (Pa.) this Friday and Seton Hill this Saturday.
