INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's volleyball team fell victim to a poor hitting night as the Crimson Hawks lost to California (Pa.) in three sets on Friday night at the Memorial Field House.
Cal won by scores of 25-22, 25-11 and 25-17.
The Crimson Hawks hit in the negative – while Cal hit .276 – and fall to 16-13 overall and 8-11 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play. The Vulcans improved to 13-16 and 11-8 with the win.
Sophomore
Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) had a match-high nine kills, adding a block assist and a service ace to total 10.5 points. Classmates
Gabrielle Egler (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Obama Academy) and
Makayla Roy (Olney, Md. /Sherwood) added six and four kills, respectively.
IUP totaled six aces in the match, with freshman
Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) tallying a season-high three. Marut also had a team-high 11 digs.
The Crimson Hawks will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Seton Hill (20-2, 11-8) at the Kovalchick Complex. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
