20-Point Performances by Norfleet & Glover Not in Enough in Loss at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Guards Brandon Norfleet (Virginia Beach, Va. /Landstown) and Anthony Glover (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) both scored more than 20 points for the Crimson Hawks but a hot-shooting Kutztown was too much for IUP in a 78-76 loss to the Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena.

Norfleet finished with a game-high 22 points, his fourth straight 20-point performance, as IUP fell to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Kutztown improved to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Glover scored a career-high 21 points as he and Norfleet combined for 43 on the afternoon. Glover finished 5-of-5 from three-point range, including a 55-footer in the final seconds, while Norfleet went 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Kutztown was efficient when it counted, shooting 59 percent from the field (13-of-22) in the second half as the Golden Bears held off an IUP comeback attempt. Kutztown also benefitted from 15 personal foul calls against the Crimson Hawks in the final 20 minutes, converting 14-of-19 foul shots.

IUP trailed 35-30 at halftime, but came back and took a 49-48 lead with 9:52 remaining after a rebound and putback layup by freshman Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria).

Less than five minutes later, IUP trailed 57-55 before Kutztown went on a 9-4 run to take a 66-59 lead with 3:11 to play. The Crimson Hawks used a three by Glover and a pair of free throws by senior forward Daddy Ugbede (Gardena, Calif./Serra) to close the gap to 67-64 less than a minute later, but Kutztown closed the game out with the help of six made free throws down the stretch.

IUP forced Kutztown into 18 turnovers while outrebounding the Golden Bears 32-to-30. Kutztown finished the game shooting 51 percent (26-of-51) from the field while the Crimson Hawks shot 44 percent (28-of-63).

Ugbede and Diaz also reached double-figures in scoring for IUP with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Diaz also had eight rebounds and four steals.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action next Saturday, Dec. 12 at Fairmont State (6-1, 3-1 Mountain East), which is coming off a narrow 88-86 loss at No. 1 West Liberty earlier today.
