WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Six different players got in the scoring column for the Crimson Hawks, but it wasn't enough as IUP lost to West Chester by a score of 14-8 in conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
Both
Sara Harshman (Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) and
Brittney Palardy (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall) scored two goals as the Crimson Hawks dropped to 9-6 overall and 7-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
The Golden Rams (10-4, 8-3) opened up the scoring with a pair of goals before Harshman put IUP on the board with her first goal at the 23:59 mark. West Chester rattled off the next three goals before Palardy and Harshman went for back-to-back scores to cut IUP's deficit to 5-3. The Golden Rams took a 6-3 lead into halftime on a goal with four seconds left.
West Chester took a five-goal lead early in the second with a 3-1 run to open the half.
Bailey McLeish (Courtice, Ontario/Anderson C.V.I) stopped the run with a goal at the 19:23 mark, but the Golden Rams added a pair of quick goals to go on top 11-5 with less than 15 minutes to play.
Kim Hooven (Malvern/Great Valley) scored her team-leading 46th goal of the season to make it an 11-6 game with 12:58 to play, but West Chester scored three of the final five goals to close out the six-score victory.
West Chester outshot the Crimson Hawks 32-16 and forced IUP into 25 turnovers on the day. Hooven,
Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick),
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) and
Maddie Poehlman (Ellicott City, Md./Seton Keough (Howard C.C.)) each tallied assists.
Angela Lontoc (Columbus, OH/Dublin Scioto) went the distance in the net for the Crimson Hawks, finishing with 12 saves.
IUP will head to Bloomsburg next Wednesday and will host Seton Hill in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.
