BLOOMSBURG, Pa. –
Kim Hooven (Malvern/Great Valley) scored a game-high four goals, including her final one as time expired, as the IUP women's lacrosse team defeated Bloomsburg 11-4 on the road on Wednesday.
The win improves to the Crimson Hawks to 10-6 overall and 8-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), good for a three-way tie with Seton Hill and West Chester for third place in the league.
IUP will look to break the tie in its regular season finale on Saturday as the Crimson Hawks host Seton Hill (12-4, 8-3). The winner will emerge as either the third or fourth seed in the upcoming PSAC tournament and will host a quarterfinal game next Tuesday.
Hooven ran her season total to 50 goals, adding an assist, ground ball and draw control.
Bailey McLeish (Courtice, Ontario/Anderson C.V.I), added three goals and
Brittney Palardy (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall) tallied two goals and a pair of assists.
The Crimson Hawks got out to a 3-0 lead in the game's first five minutes on goals by McLeish, Palardy and Hooven, What followed was a 17:39 span without a single goal until Bloomsburg scored with 7:05 left to make it a 3-1 game, eventually heading into halftime with the same score.
The Huskies (7-7, 6-5) scored the first goal of the second half to make it a one score game before IUP reeled off four straight goals to open up the game. Bloomsburg would only manage two more goals while the Crimson Hawks tacked on four more to finish off the seven-goal victory.
IUP easily outshot the Huskies 29-to-18 and forced Bloomsburg into 23 turnovers on the afternoon.
Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) caused four of those turnovers while also picking up five ground balls, scoring once and assisting on two others.
Maggie Malane (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) caused three turnovers and had ground balls while
Hannah Bertolo (Murrysville/Franklin Regional) tallied five ground balls.
The Crimson Hawks and Seton Hill will face off at Miller Stadium at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
