CRESSON, Pa. – The Crimson Hawks totaled 26 hits as IUP swept Mount Aloysius in a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Monday afternoon. IUP was victorious by scores of 10-4 and 11-10.
10 different players recorded a hit for the Crimson Hawks as they improved to 19-18-1 overall on the season.
Seven of IUP's 26 hits went for extra bases, including the 22nd home run of the season by first baseman
Ryan Uhl (St. Marys, Pa./St. Marys) in the day's first game.
Mike Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) also hit a home run, leading off game one a solo shot to give the Crimson Hawks an early lead.
The game was tied at 1-1 until the fourth when IUP came up with five runs, including four RBI singles. Uhl's homer was a three-run shot in the fifth, following a run-scoring single by
Austin Mock (State College, Pa./State College).
Zach DeTillio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seneca Valley) picked up a complete game win, striking out three and giving up four earned runs.
IUP had four doubles in the game two victory, one each by Lupia, Mock,
Rick Jones (New Castle/Laurel) and
John Beatty (New Castle/Mohawk). The game included three big run-scoring innings, with the Crimson Hawks leading things off with a five-run first stanza. Mount Aloysius responded with an eight-run second and IUP later scored six runs in the fifth.
Nate Dickey (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) started on the mound and gave way to
Dan Clark (Indiana, Pa./Indiana), who struck out three batters in 3.1 innings to tally his first career victory. Mock came in to toss the final two innings, striking out a pair to pick up his third save of the season and 15th of his career.
Mock also had a team-high five hits on the day, going 5-for-8 with a double, three RBI and scored three runs. Beatty went 4-for-7 with a double and triple and three runs and Uhl finished 4-for-8 with that home run, three RBI and scored three runs.
The Crimson Hawks are in their final week of the regular season as they host Bloomsburg in a non-divisional doubleheader on Tuesday. IUP's final divisional series of the season begins on Friday at Gannon.
