Women’s Volleyball Posts Second Straight 3-0 Victory

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) and Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield) each tallied eight kills to help the IUP women's volleyball team to a three-set victory over Roberts Wesleyan on Friday evening.
 
The Crimson Hawks forced Roberts Wesleyan into a -.028 hitting percentage on the night as they improved to 3-1 on the season. IUP had seven total blocks, with Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) totaling four blocks assists while Gabrielle Egler (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Obama Academy) had three block assists.
 
IUP took the first set by a score of 25-19, also winning 25-15 and 25-18.
 
The 3-1 record is the best four-match start to a season since the Crimson Hawks began 3-1 back in 2012. That year they finished with a 20-15 overall record, their last season over .500.
 
The Crimson Hawks trailed just once all night long, as Roberts Wesleyan scored the first point of the opening match. IUP responded with a 9-4 run before winning the set and then started the second with 11 straight points.
 
In addition to her eight kills, Cignetti had two service aces, a block assist and four digs. Anderson had one ace and two block assists. Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) had six kills and two block assists.
 
IUP is back in action tomorrow morning at 10:30 when they play against the College of Saint Rose in Rochester.
