Palluconi’s Two Goals Help Women’s Soccer Defeat Lock Haven, 4-1

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP sophomore Lexie Palluconi (Penfield, N.Y./Fairport) scored two goals as the Crimson Hawks' women's soccer team defeated Lock Haven 4-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Wednesday afternoon.
 
IUP broke a two-game losing streak to improve to 3-3-1 overall on the season and 3-2-1 in the PSAC. Lock Haven falls to 1-5 and 1-5 with the loss.
 
In addition to Palluconi's scores, sophomore Mackenna Miller (Milton, Pa. /Milton) and junior Kiersten Zerbe (Danville, Pa. /Danville) each added a goal. Palluconi and Zerbe each brought their season total to six goals on the year while it was Miller's first of the year.
 
Palluconi got the scoring going in the 22nd minute when she put a shot past the goalie on the far post after a nice pass from Kristen Baumgartner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford).
 
Lock Haven was able to tie things up right before the half as the match was 1-1 at the break. It wasn't long into the second half when IUP recaptured the lead in the 48th minute, as sophomore Megan Coyne (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview Park) found Miller, who bended a shot into the corner from 35 yards out.
 
Palluconi netted her second goal and put the Crimson Hawks on top 3-1 with a penalty kick in the 76th minute. Zerbe put the finishing touches on the in when sophomore Cassidy LeDonne (Murrysville, Pa. /Franklin Regional) led a perfect pass before a long run into the box, giving IUP a three-goal lead with just over five minutes to play.
 
The Crimson Hawks finished with 12 total shots to Lock Haven's eight, and also held the advantage in corner kicks, 9-5. Junior Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) kept the Bald Eagles' scoring down, saving three shots in 90 minutes.
 
IUP begins a four-match home stand this weekend, hosting Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday at South Campus Field. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
