Zerbe Scores Game-Winner in Overtime to Down Pitt-Johnstown

INDIANA, Pa. – Junior Kiersten Zerbe (Danville, Pa. /Danville) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help the IUP women's soccer team defeat Pitt-Johnstown 2-1 at South Campus Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Crimson Hawks improve to 4-3-1 overall on the season. They'll also now 4-2-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), currently sixth in the league standings with 13 points.

Zerbe's goal came on a breakaway, drawing the UPJ goalie out of the box and finding the back of the net for the game-winning score. Sophomore Lexie Palluconi (Penfield, N.Y./Fairport), who assisted on both of the Crimson Hawks' goals on Saturday, found Zerbe for the goal as the game entered its 96th minute.

The Crimson Hawks outshot UPJ 14-6 on the day, limiting the Mountain Cats to just two shots on goal.

Freshman Jenny Vietmeier (South Park, Pa./South Park) scored her first career goal, getting the scoring going with a goal in the 26th minute. The game then went into a standstill for nearly 50 minutes of playing time until UPJ tied things up with a goal in the 73rd minute. From there, it would go to overtime where Zerbe scored her seventh goal of the season.

This was the first of four straight home games for the Crimson Hawks, who will host Alderson Broaddus in non-conference play on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
