INDIANA, Pa. – Sophomore
Riley Bartoo (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls) scored a goal and assisted on another to help the IUP women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over visiting Alderson Broaddus in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
On a day filled with rain, the Crimson Hawks took advantage of sloppy field conditions and dominated play both offensively and defensively as they improved to 5-3-1 overall.
The goal and assist were the first points of the season for Bartoo, who put IUP on top 2-0 with a shot off a rebound in the 27th minute. She then found junior
Kiersten Zerbe (Danville, Pa. /Danville) on a breakaway, as the forward beat three defenders and put a shot past the Alderson Broaddus goalie in the top right corner for a goal in the 38th minute, IUP's third of the half.
The goal was Zerbe's team-leading eighth of the season.
Sophomore
Mackenna Miller (Milton, Pa. /Milton) got the scoring started in the 19th minute, collecting a rebound off of a missed shot on a corner kick and threading the net to give the Crimson Hawks an early 1-0 lead.
The scoring slowed down in the second half as the field conditions deteriorated and IUP played more conservatively. The Crimson Hawks outshot Alderson Broaddus 17-3 on the day and had a total of eight corners. Junior goalie
Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) saved a pair of shots in the net for her second shutout of the season.
The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Friday when they host Kutztown at 3 p.m.
