INDIANA, Pa. – Sophomore
Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield) totaled 34 kills, including 13 in IUP's three-set win over Alderson Broaddus, as the Crimson Hawks' women's volleyball team split their two matches on Saturday afternoon in the ASICS Crimson Hawk Invitational.
Anderson also had five blocks and 14 digs on the day as IUP fell to Lake Erie 3-1 before the 3-0 win over Alderson Broaddus.
Other notable offensive performances on Saturday came from sophomore
Makayla Roy (Olney, Md. /Sherwood), who had 13 kills against Lake Erie; sophomore
Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana), who had 10 kills against Alderson Broaddus; and sophomore
Gabrielle Egler (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Obama Academy), who combined for 17 kills on the afternoon.
Junior
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) was the main setup all day long, finishing with a combined 99 assists, including 59 against Lake Erie.
The Crimson Hawks took the opening set against Lake Erie (2-2), 25-22, but the Storm rebounded with victories of 26-24, 26-24, and 25-20 to earn the four-set victory.
IUP (2-1) came out strong in the nightcap, easily winning 25-15 and 25-18 in the first two sets against Alderson Broaddus, before a comeback 25-23 third set win. The Crimson Hawks trailed 21-18, but responded with three straight points, and scored seven of the last nine, to clinch a 25-23 win.
Defensively for IUP, freshman
Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) finished with 45 combined digs, while senior
Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) had eight total blocks.
The Crimson Hawks return to the court next weekend with a pair of matches in the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational in Rochester, N.Y.
