EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper
Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) recorded a career high 12 saves as the IUP women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to fourth-ranked East Stroudsburg on Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play.
With the loss the Crimson Hawks fall to 6-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play. Meanwhile the Warriors improve to 9-1 overall behind a 9-0 mark in league play.
She helped keep the first half scoreless as she made four of her 12 saves in the first half over a nearly six-minute stretch, including a save on a header from Shea Neal in the 23rd minute.
McKenna Keffel (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) and
Kiersten Zerbe (Danville, Pa. /Danville) provided the best scoring chances for IUP as they each had shots saved by East Stroudsburg goalkeeper Jules Harris. Keffel nearly gave the Crimson Hawks the lead just seconds before halftime after her shot was saved.
The game remained scoreless until the 70th minute when Alex Pickett found the back of the net. She then added a second goal at the 79:18-mark.
Printz became the first IUP goalkeeper to record 12 or more saves since Mara Hricik made 12 saves against Mercyhurst on October 3, 2012. Keffel and
Kiersten Zerbe (Danville, Pa. /Danville) each lead the team with three shots on goal.
The Crimson Hawks return to PSAC action when they host California (PA) on Wednesday, October 5 at 4 p.m.
