CHEYNEY, Pa. – The quartet of
Sara Vaughn (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Conneaut),
Sami Brown (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land),
Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) and
Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) combined for 30 of IUP's 42 total kills as the Crimson Hawks recorded a 3-0 sweep of Cheyney in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
With the win IUP extends its winning streak to four matches and improves to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in conference action. Meanwhile, Cheyney falls to 1-9 and 0-4 in PSAC play.
Vaughn tallied nine kills while hitting a blistering .692 and added one dig. Brown added eight kills, three assists, two service aces and four digs. Cignetti added seven kills and three digs while Palmer totaled six kills, six digs and four service aces.
In the first set the Crimson Hawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead before the Wolves tied it at 4-4. IUP then used a 10-5 run to take a 14-9 lead on a service ace from
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy). Cheyney pulled to within one at 19-18 before IUP used a 6-1 run to win 25-19.
The Crimson Hawks took an early 11-5 lead in the second set after a service ace from Brown. IUP then extended the lead to 21-9 off a kill from Palmer before taking the set 25-11.
IUP opened up the third set with a 10-1 run after Cheyney attack error. A kill from Palmer then pushed the lead to 17-2 before the Crimson Hawks took the set 25-7.
The Crimson Hawks return to action they host Mercyhurst on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
