Zerbe and Keffel pace Women's Soccer to 2-1 win over Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Senior Kiersten Zerbe (Danville, Pa. /Danville) and freshman McKenna Keffel (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) each scored unassisted goals as the IUP women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory at Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Crimson Hawks improve to 8-6 overall and 7-5 in league play. Meanwhile, the Marauders fall to 5-8 overall and 5-8 in conference competition.

Zerbe scored the game's first goal in the 27th minute as she scored off a rebound after Millersville goalkeeper Samantha Wolfe was pulled out of the net. Just three minutes later, Brandie Bryant (Essex, Md./Eastern Technical) nearly doubled the Crimson Hawk lead after her shot was saved by Wolfe. Keffel extended the lead to 2-0 with her third goal of the season at the 31:12-mark when she lifted a bouncing ball in the box over Wolfe's head. The Marauders struck just before halftime as Kay Liebl beat goalie Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) to the left in the 43rd minute.

In the second half, IUP continued the pressure as Zerbe had a shot go wide just five minutes into the half. Keffel had a shot saved at the 69:38-mark while Lexie Palluconi (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) had two shots saved in the 73rd 74th minutes. Millersville nearly tied the game at 2-2 when a header from Halie Parker was blocked at the 79:13-mark before Alexandra Powell hit the crossbar in the 80th minute.

Printz made just one saves in earning the win while Wolfe made nine saves in suffering the loss.

The Crimson Hawks return to PSAC play on Wednesday, October 9 when they travel to Seton Hill for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
