GREENSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Courtney McHugh (Hummelstown, Pa. /Hershey) scored her first career goal as IUP attempted a second half comeback, but it fell short as the Crimson Hawks lost to Seton Hill 2-1 on the road Wednesday afternoon.
McHugh scored the goal in the 74th minute on a penalty stroke, beating the Seton Hill keeper to the top right corner to cut the Griffins' lead to 2-1.
The shot was one of eight in the second half for IUP, which totaled four shots on goal in the full 90 minutes. The Crimson Hawks had one final chance at a tie as time wound down, but the Seton Hill defense turned them away.
The loss dropped the Crimson Hawks to 8-7 overall and 7-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). IUP fell into a tie with Shippensburg for seventh place with 21 points in the standings. Seton Hill improved to 6-6-2 and 5-6-2.
The Griffins opened the scoring in the ninth minute as a Seton Hill pass ricocheted off of an IUP defender for an own goal. They took a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute, holding IUP without a shot on goal in the opening half.
The Crimson Hawks have three regular season games left as several teams push for playoff positioning. IUP will host Bloomsburg (6-6-2, 5-6-2) on Saturday.
